From Presence To Citizenship: A Question Of Justice

Talk about worlds colliding! Although I have been a part of the From Presence To Citizenship (https://fptc.ca) leadership group since the first conversations back in 2014, we also have new members and we all worked together for the first time to host our first in-person Learning Exchange since our previous five-year run ended in 2020.

This time it was part of a two-day event known as the #InclusionSymposium coordinated by Community Living Ontario, and day two was hosted by the EDI Community of Practice bzbz.ca/edi-cop. I got involved after I saw them present at the CLO conference in Ottawa in September, and although I had just a small role in the EDI-CoP day as a member of the communications committee, I was the only one with the extreme privelege of working with both groups!

My hope is that there will be future events where we can do an even better job of combining the two efforts, which share direct connections about human rights, citizenship, and justice. My fear is that these conversations about principles, and justice, and the quality of life of human beings is already a quaint idea of the past, as profiteers move in on the last frontier, human services. I think by next year we’ll already know which one it really is,
